Mine hasn’t moved in 3-4 months. Im stuck at 769.

Just curious if its just me ?

Thanks.

PS, My other free score, Quizzle was only 703 which is a wider range than I expected. Both, however, have me in the top 15%.

Both scores supposedly come from transunion so go figure.

(Im not willing to PAY for a credit score or even sign up for those free & cancel deals)
Credit Karma provides a free no-hassle credit score without the usual 30 days free bait followed by extravagant automatic enrollment. Instead, it recuperates its costs with targeted advertising offers based on your credit history.

I don’t oppose automated targeted ads. We are already bombarded with many of them unknowingly and often they provide better matching offers. I checked my Credit Karma’s scores a month ago but had an uneasy reservation when I learned that Credit karma provides its own “proprietary credit score” on scale of 300 to 850 (same scale as FICO Score of Equifax).

All of us who have done a credit score check from all 3 credit bureaus know that the credit scores differ by a few points. Credit scores are slightly different because each provider uses somewhat different algorithms. However, all credit scores are calculated from payment history (~35% weight), credit utilization (i.e. how much balance you have on card, ~30%), length of credit history (~1
In order to find the accuracy of credit scores, I briefly subscribed a trial offer (and canceled same day) and pulled credit scores from all 3 credit bureaus. In comparison to my Credit Karma scores, credit score differ as follows (difference in parenthesis); Transunion (0 points), Experian (+17),and Equifax or FICO (+7). The low difference in Transunion score maybe because Credit karma utilizes Transunion’s service to calculated its scores. As a safe guard I also asked my cousin M to check his scores. He found his Experian score was 12 points lower than Credit Karma’s score.

In conclusion to my little unscientific experiment, Credit Karma’s credit scores are reliable. It gives free tools. There is no need for not signing up for the service since it’s free. I would love to hear about your own Credit Karma’s experiment.

Can requesting an AnnualCreditReport lower my score?

March 14th, 2011 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I know that when credit agencies (equifax, experian, transunion) recieve frequent or multiple requests from 3rd parties for your credit report, they will lower your score based on suspicion. Does requesting the free annual credit report affect this? Will they count this along with the other requests?

I tried emailing the FTC and the credit companies, but theres no way to reach them for general inquiries w/out being a customer.

Do I need to know my credit score?

March 13th, 2011 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I’m 19 years old and I’ve had (and used) a credit card for a year. I’ve paid the entire balance every month I’ve had it before the due date. So I’m guessing I have a good credit score. I’m about to embark on the car buying journey and I’m going to need a loan of around 00. I read the Consumer Reports new car buying guide and it said that it’s good to know your credit score before trying to get a loan. Is this true in my case? Do I need to know the score? If so, which one? TransUnion, Equifax, or Experian? Or all 3? From what I understand, all 3 will give me a free report but the FICO is not free.

Quick question on receiving the annualfree credit report?

March 9th, 2011 by admin | 4 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

Hi,
If I order my free annual credit report from the 3 major companies, will any of the 3 send me more paperwork to fill out first? For example: copies of id..etc.. If I recall, Transunion goes straight ahead and lets you view, but what about the other 2?

p.s. which is the easiest most affordable link to see your scores? i really don’t want to join a monthly subsciption…
i just read the bottom of the printed form to send by mail..it says if additional information is needed to process your request, the consumer credit reporting company will contact you by mail…
I guess this would be Equifax or Experian or both…
Is that usually what happens?

Credit monitoring service…repairing credit, is this service necessary?

March 5th, 2011 by admin | 4 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I am in the process of repairing my credit. I already have the most up-to-date credit reports from the 3 major bureaus which I got for free from http://www.annualcreditreport.com

While repairing my credit, having debts deleted or paid off, etc…I want to be able to see the changes happening. I can only order my credit reports for free once per year…so cannot check to make sure that collectors are erasing the debts as being requested in negotiations. I was wondering if anyone uses a "realtime" credit monitoring service (preferably that is updated daily, or everytime a change is made to the report), so that I can validate my requests are happening.

I’m not so much concerned about the scoring…but if it’s included, then I suppose that’s a bonus. Any suggestions? Is there a way to request my FREE credit report more than once per year (e.g. tell the CRA’s that I am repairing credit, and need a fresh copy, etc) without having to pay each time?
Micki…you did not read my question at all. I am talking about online monitoring services, not a debt consolidator or debt management service. I am doing the work myself.
Sgt Big Red, thanks for the response. Are you referring to "they" as the CRA’s (Equifax, Experian, TU)? "They" make changes all the time to reports, without sending you an updated report, thus why you have to request it. Otherwise, every time someone inquires into my credit file, or reports me (adversely or positively), I would get a new credit report in the mail. I’m not so sure who you’re referring to…

If you mean the collection agency will send me an updated report, I wouldn’t count on that either…they just want their money to settle the debt, not send me an updated report.

why is it so hard to find my credit report?

February 13th, 2011 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

Not going to use "free credit report.com" not going to equifax or experian, or the other one I forget because their sites look shady too.

anyway PNC can check my credit score? why the fuck does it cost 1 dollar, and why does FCR.com submit "some" of my personal information to 3rd parties (it says so in their privacy policy) and ever since I signed up with THEM I keep getting frauded, or being hacked and whatnot.

any place that is not even romotely connected to the internet? or doesn’t cost 1$ and a 12$ a month membership to view? Im pissed.

Is it this hard fighting for your credit?

February 8th, 2011 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I recently found out my credit is good with Experian and bad with TransUnion and Equifax (all in the 600s) but when I called and disputed an old utility bill someone had with my social security number (my ex husband) they gave me the third degree like I was the thief! It ticked me off to say the least. Then when you speak to TransUion they are telling you your report may have changed since you’ve ordered it two days ago..and they ask you do you want the free 30 day trial when and then to be billed afterwards, even though you are paying for your credit report each month!! Talk about money grubbing!! Experian was awesome about the whole situation though their customer service was better. I don’t know about Equifax yet. They are like the lochness monster of credit. I have to write them via certified mail.

Are all credit companies this rude?
Do you think their should be tougher laws on people who steal the identities of others?
Do you think you should be held responsible for your ex spouses debt?
Do you think Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion should have better customer service and finally
Do you think you should be able to obtain a copy of your credit report for free every six months instead of one report one time per year???

Back story: Tried to get a car I was denied citing my credit report. Then I tried to get a new apartment couldn’t because I was 2-3 points too low on my credit score so I was denied an apartment too! Found out my identity was stolen by some thief who broke into my home Christmas ‘05, my sister, AND my ex-husband!!!
I do have the police report from 2005 amongst my important papers. Luckily. Two and a half years ago I bought a car with no problem and I paid it off on time never late not once. I’ve never had any credit cards or credit card debt. Yeah I got TransUnion and Experian on the phone. I gave TransUnion the number of the company that my ex husband used to get lights in my name. I never signed anything to get lights on. I just hope I can fix the situation soon. Thank you for your great answers. :)

January 30th, 2011 by admin | 1 Comment | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

ok i live in Canada.
i ordered the Equifax free credit report (without score) by phone, and the machine completed my request successfully and said it would mail it in 3-5 business days…it’s been like 8 days now and no report in the mail… unfortunately they have no 1-800 number to which i can actually speak to a human… the only number they have is to order a report, and that is run by an automated machine… what to do?
