I’m currently deployed overseas. my question is should take time from school to come back overseas as a contractor and save 0,000 to set myself up, or should I go home use the gib bill and go to school (don’t work), until I get my bachelors and go from there?

If I do it this way, the latter, I may meet someone, plan for a future and not be able to go back overseas as a contractor.

The most important things to me are family, money, then travel, a decent car. that just my nature. I want to spend time with my aging parent, maybe have some kids but I can’t really do that and be a contractor at the same time. At the same time I know I have to live life for me. I’m just trying to plan the next 4 years or so.

Someday I want to get my masters, say I worked hard, influenced lots of people and made a difference. I’ll spare you the noble speech. I just wanna be successful.

Here are my GOOD stats:

* 26 yrs old attractive female, divorced (military marriage) no kids, single
* 3 yrs Navy Reserves, 1 year active duty as a mil police. Want to become an officer.
* 6 months I will have an Associates in GS.
* 9,500 tax free money in savings (military)
*VA benefits for life
* 20 months new GIB to use

BAD stats:

* no kids (desirably want to have a family in next couple years)
*bankruptcy/foreclosure (started young being an adult, learned from my mistakes)
*720 credit score is now a 535
*unfinished degree. want to get my bachelors in next 2 years
*aging parent :) Thanks sko. I have 3 months left. My dad is 69 and diabetic.
also yes i do plan to return to mil service. whether active or reserves. I’m the one that everytime we leave a deployment im not ready to go home.lol

How about a U.S. citizen bailout?

July 26th, 2011 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

OK, instead of bailing out large banking firms and huge manufacturers, how about a nice healthy bailout for, ‘we the people’?
It is already estimated that total bailouts, those already given and those looming on the horizon, will exceed ,000,000,000,000 (trillion).
My demographics may not be accurate and are based strictly on the info that I was able to access on the web, and assuming these totals are accurate, there are appx. 72 million households in the U.S. (renter’s and those purchasing, or owning homes)
Of that number appx 14% make over $ 200,000 per year, a little over 10 million. Even though this isn’t fair, and is actually borderline socialism, let’s exempt those hard working, under appreciated peeps, sorry. Again, this isn’t what I view as "the American way", but remember, democrats have all 3 houses, lol! So, lets go on …
This leaves us with appx 162 million households making less than 200 thousand. Further break downs can be applied to lower eligibility. Maybe a credit score or a similar detail that I am not considering at this time, but again, many would be crying foul, and it would be warranted by those that will be excluded from receiving $$$, when their only crime was being frugal, or a hard worker that was responsible enough to pay down their debt, sorry, but again, think (all 3 houses!)
If we differentiate by debts or by number of dependents this number would change drastically again.
I am sure that final criteria, and final ‘number’ could be settled upon. Figuring a trillion bailout, each ‘head of house’ would receive appx $ 32,000 to each household in the U.S.This number would also change according to the actual household income of the individual? My demographics are by no means accurate as I stated earlier, I tried several web sites to break everything down.
Anyone that is able to break this down and re-do the numbers, please do! This is only an idea that has been rolling around in my head…This would stimulate the economy, no doubt, but, I am sure that if money were given to people directly, so that they could pay off debts, ie: mortgages, many would simply blow the money on unnecessary items, and totally disregard their debts. Maybe ‘big brother’, j/k, could issue checks explicitly directed to the ‘payee’ that is designated and further restrictions could be applied?
Maybe none of this is feasible, and maybe that’s good, but I’d just as soon see ‘the people’ get the free handouts instead of the fat-cat CEO’s and Wallstreet Jockies…
I would like to hear your thoughts on this…
Maybe I should have shortened it to…"This way to the short bus’"

How long do you think the foreclosure moritorium will last?

July 25th, 2011 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

Suzie Orman said 3 to 5 years.
That worries me.
People with mortgages will realize that they don’t have to pay their mortgage for the next 5 years and the bank cannot foreclose on their home.
A foreclosure only brings down a credit score about 100 points.
During that 5 years they could save up enough to pay any landlord rent up front for one year.
Which few landlords would turn down.

Isn’t this going to cause a huge problem?
Many people will just stop paying and live in their home for free.
And in 5 years we will get a flood of foreclosures – homes practically selling for free.
Our home could be worth less than half of what we paid for it.

An optimistic and opposing point of view?

Would I qualify for a 300,000 home loan?

July 24th, 2011 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I am looking at a condo in Las Vegas, asking 9,000. I am a Veteran and qualify for a VA loan obviously. I have ,000 in cash saved up, and wouldn’t want to pay more than ,000 down payment…. tops. I would probably pay ,000 down. I am 23, this will be my first home/condo purchase, and i have a credit score of 745. I will be attending college in Vegas, and under the new GI Bill, i will be paid 76 / month tax-free for 9 months of the year (Sep-May… school year). I have a job lined up with my friends father making 2,500 a month after taxes. I have a car payment of 0/month, and a credit card with about 2,000 on it. I would like to know whether or not I qulify for a 300,000 loan. Iike i said, im getting out of the army next month, and will be buying/working in august, starting school in sept.

As of this mornig, the VA 30-year fixed was a 5.01 %, and my home bank is offering 4.875% for 3–year fixed. if that helps??? any info would be appreciated. thanks

Balance Transfer to pay off Car loan…was this a good move?

July 23rd, 2011 by admin | 5 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

Ok in 2003 I purchased my car for ,900 at 7.25%. Payments were approx 380 a month. I have 00 left on the loan and decided to xfer the balance to my credit card. They offered me a 0% on Bal xfers for one year and about a 3% fee to xfer. (I have a 0 balance on this card)

it looks like a good idea because I do not want to give the bank more free money…let alone the amount I already gave up until this point.

What do you think?

And for future references – is it better or worse for your Credit Score to have a car loan and just pay is off….or transfer the bal to a 0% CC and pay that off with the interest?

Thanks
I plan of paying the k in the next 5 months
I plan on paying the k in the next 5 months

I don't know how to feel about my life?

July 22nd, 2011 by admin | 5 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I’m a pretty positive and ambitious person. I go into situations expecting the best, but most of it ends in tribulations. Seriously.

I was molested as a baby..yes a baby and later on 3 different guys. At home, school and church. One of them was arrested last year for raping and killing a teenager last year. I told my family but they wanted me to keep this a secret. It get’s weirder..but I digress.

My mom started spreading rumors about me after living with her for only a few months. This was my first time living with her at age 17. She kicked me out two days before my bday 12/17/2000 (winter in NY, yay) and tried to make me homeless by asking ppl not to let me stay with with them. I only talk to her now because of my sister..but i truly do hate my mother.

I used to be an only child..my dad decided to have kids when I was 21. So as selfish as it is I feel abandoned – my mom has replaced me with my sister and my dad with his kids. I was the love of his life. Now we hardly even talk. :(

I’ve been used and now I have about 30K cc debt. Because someone lied to me about their life and background and used me. So now i’m left with 90k total in debt (mortgage). I’m now 28 and was debt free until I met this U.S. Soldier. ugh!

I bought my own place at the age of 22. I’ve had to change states and within the last 2 yrs I have gone through 3 tenants. 1. was arrested for stealing from his job. 2. There was a fire which meant my tenant had to move 3. The other person just disappeared. Each time i’ve managed to get back on my feet…but this time it’s been 7 months since i’ve been paying rent and mortgage. I can’t sell because now my property value has tremendously decreased.

Funny thing is I don’t have any blemishes on my credit score. Except for high debt, but I’ve never been late on a bill. Other people also think that i’m happy but i’m not. I was suicidal before but as I got older, I’ve pushed through a lot of things. I know LIFE could be worst.

I just want to know how to cope when nothing goes right. Which obviously is everything. My life is actually worse than I mentioned.. I don’t believe in God, my reasons are obvious.

Any advice would be helpful.
Sorry about my errors.

Should I Cancel my Cellular Service?

July 21st, 2011 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I am a 22 year old new PhD student and I am more than feeling the pinch in my purse. I had previously been working full time and still have loads of bills to keep up with. I am on a fellowship earning k a year (tuition and health insurance is paid for me as well), but I am having a really hard time.

Per month (major responsibilities):
~0 in CC bills (3 cards)
6.05 car payment + ~ Geico insurance
5 rent + ~5 utilities
cell phone

I’m thinking of suspending my cellular phone service because it seems to be an easy bill to get rid of. I am not actually under contract right now so I can cancel with no problem, but would like to continue service at some point. T-mobile says I can suspend up to 18 months with no maintenance fee. Is it worth it to free up some money to contribute to paying down the CCs?

I would love to try to consolidate, but unfortunately, even though I have never been a single day late on ANYTHING (credit score ~700), I am unable to get a consolidation loan without a guarantor. Problem is, I do not know anyone who has good enough credit that would be willing to cosign. On top of that, I am not eligible to receive any school loans due to the fellowship that I have.

My Plan:

-myFaves 600 plan .99
-Unlimited Domestic Messages (including pics) .99
-HotSpot@Home Add-on (get to talk anywhere there is a wireless connection for free…instead of using cellular towers) .99

Total Due Monthly (excluding taxes) .97

I don’t think I can get a better deal than this….
I have 3 CCs because 1 was supposed to be my main card (CL: ~,000). And yes, I have basically used up all the credit because I lost my job as a lab tech and I had to live off of it for a few months. I did have ~00 in savings at the time, but that went very quickly especially because I had to move and pay 00 fee right there just for breaking my lease.

I applied for the 2nd card and planned to transfer everything onto that to save on interest. Unfortunately, I was only approved for a 00 CL on that one. Then, a couple of years later, I applied for a 3rd in the hopes of consolidating the other two, and I only have a 00 CL so can’t do much with that as far as consolidation.
MyFaves is not a tool to help me recall certain phone numbers quickly. With that feature, I am able to talk to 5 people with unlimited usage of minutes. This means that talking to these people does not count toward my 600/month limit.

Will my mortgage underwriter approve overtime in income?

July 19th, 2011 by admin | 4 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

My husband and & are going for our first mortgage. We are doing whats called a "soft second" mortgage which is an excellent program that offers only 3% down, no PMI & the interest rates are a point lower than the national interest rates. We have been living with family while be pay off the little debt we had so we could be debt free & qualify for a bigger mortgage. (We know our limits on what we can afford.) After working very hard on paying off the debt, saving money, getting my husbands credit score up to OVER where it needs to be for the program, we went to the bank, planning on getting our pre-qualification. WELL…SURPRISE! They said they aren’t sure if the underwriters will approve my husbands overtime. This makes a difference of OVER ,000 in annual income. That translates into a HUGE difference in what we would be approved for. We live near Boston so homes around here are very expensive. Our mortgage guy said that its all up to the underwriter and we have to show proof that my husband has had consistent overtime for at least the past 2 years. Here is the problem. We moved out of state for 3 years and he switched jobs. (He has been in the SAME field with no gaps in work history for 9 years.) He has always had overtime. They said if we get an end of the year "pay stub/w-2" from the job he worked in the other state showing he had overtime, and also a letter from his current employer (he is back working at the same company he was working at before we moved out of state, we are now back.) stating that his overtime will be "continuing and consistent" than the underwriter MIGHT approve it.
I guess underwriters have the power to say yes or no depending on many factors. What happens if our underwriter comes in from a bad weekend at home and decides…"No this overtime doesn’t qualify."
We have great payment history on our car, credit cards, etc. And consistent work history. Can’t these things be taken into consideration?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Looking to buy my first home. Help?

July 18th, 2011 by admin | 4 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I am a 25 year old Male, Im looking into buying my first home, and I need some advice. I will try to provide as much info as I can so that maybe someone can tell me whether what I am thinking about purchasing is a good idea or not

First of all, my credit score is currently 669 according to myfico.com (paid service, not an estimate)

The house I’m really interested in purchasing is shown at the following links :

http://www.remax.com/property/81113974-60450446/10701-Brice-Ct-Fredericksburg-VA-22407/

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/10701-Brice-Ct-Fredericksburg-VA-22407/64497051_zpid/

The price of the house is listed at 5,000 for those just browsing this question.
the zillow site shows past purchase prices, but might take longer to load. The remax site has pictures and more info.

I currently make .80 an hour with 40 hours guaranteed a week, coming out to 35k a year I believe. After taxes I make approximately 495 a week, or 2000-2500 a month depending on how many weeks.

My current expenses are (per month) :
0 – 2009 Toyota Corolla 3 years left on payments
0 – Total payments for student loans, long period of time left
– Sprint cell
– Payment for bed purchase, approximately 12 months left
0 Car insurance (actually 150 a month, but on 4 month pay plan, 2 month free with geico)

Round figures on misc :
– gas for car
0 – food
?? – Home owners insurance, Power, water, trash

I have visited a Century 21 Realtor and they are showing me some homes online, but im finding more without them. My real question is, will I be able to get the loan for the house? Im in a serious relationship with a woman who is going to be paying half the mortgage, but my name will be the only one on the mortgage and lease. Estimated payments on the mortgage looks to be about 0, and half for me would be 370 I suppose. I could always rent out the other rooms to friends even if I didnt have her, but do banks normally take that into consideration when determining qualifications for loan amounts? Is my credit score good enough? Any other advice?
Forgot to mention I dont have much for the down payment, but the Century 21 Realtor mentioned that they offer loans at around 5.3 apr to cover any down payment I wanted to make if I didnt have it. I would like to save, but Im not sure the house will be on the market for long
