I am applying for my first Studio, its a low income housing complex that has a very intense screening process. They pull your credit report and it has to be at 650 or higher (Im at like 653 w/ Experian- but I dont know what bureau they use that might make my score a little lower. A coworker has suggested turning in a friendly statement of facts along w/ a copy of my experian report explaining any points they may possibly view as negative.

Please read the below and let me know if you think its too much? Its okay? Any advice much appreciated!

********************************************************

This is my personal statement regarding any possible negative points of my credit report in further detail.

Possible Negative Point 1- Large amount of money owed in total:
This is for one reason only and that is my student loan amount. I attend a private nursing school and have needed to take out a US Dept of Education loan on the tuition cost. I have been paying back interest that may be building up here and there, but the large amount of money I owe is due entirely to student loans. These are government funded loans and I am not scheduled to begin paying these back until 6 months after my graduation date.

My auto loan remaing balance is under 00, and per my credit report you can see that it will be paid off in full with 3 more months of regular payments.

Possible Negative Point 2- Low Credit Limit on Revolving Credit Card, and amount owed closer to the total limit:
I recently had a emergency large ticket item on my vehicle and had to turn to my credit card to help pay for the repair. Per my credit report you should see that I have only been over the limit once by error but have maintained this credit card in good standing and most often with very low balances since I received it when I turned 18 in 2006.

Things I would like to be considered:
I am 22 years old and am currently bulding my credit. I have never taken on a financial responsibility I wasn’t able to handle and my credit report should reflect that as well. I had a ,000 car loan that I obtained in May 2008 set to last for 4 years. Through timely payments and extra payments I will be done with this loan much ahead of schedule by the end of 2010.

I have also attached a copy of my Experian Credit Report in full detail as I obtain those free with a monthly subscription in case your source of credit reports don’t provide enough detail to support my facts above.

I appreciate you taking time reviewing my statement. I would very much like to be approved for this apartment and therefore felt the need to point out the reasons for any possible negative point of my credit report in further detail.

What is this scam with registering for services and sending the confirmation number?

September 10th, 2011 by admin | 5 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I get these e-mails from time to time stating "You are one of three people we are considering hiring" and then they direct me to go onto a credit report website, register and send them the confirmation number. "We need to check your credit report". I know it’s NOT legitimate, but do these people get money for getting people to sign-up?

The other one was for an online auction website, which I knew was total BS.

The E-mail:

Sallie Mae Financial?

September 3rd, 2011 by admin | 1 Comment | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I am a woman who recently graduated from school. I got my student loan through Sallie Mae Financial. When I got my loan they explained that I would not have to make payments until 6 months after I graduate. Well I graduated in November of 2007 and now ( March of 2008) they are claiming that I am 0+ delinquent. I have asked and begged and pleaded for some explanation of this. They have repeatedly hung of on me, yelled at me, called me names (ex. whiney, and a delinquent). No one has ever given me an ounce of explanation. On 3/18/08 I recieved a phone call to my home around 8:15 at night. It was a woman from Sallie Mae stating that I am behind on my payments. I told her that I am aware and that I have spoken with approx. 20 other people regarding this matter and that what they are asking for my monthly payment is 0 more than my car payment and I drive a 03 Grand Am. She put me on hold and a man got on the phone, never introduced himself with a name just that he was a "floor supervisor". He proceeded to ask me how much my car payment was (191.23) and what kind of car I drive. Here I am thinking that he is going to help me or price match or something. NO! He told me to sell my car and get something cheaper, that I shouldnt have went to school if I couldnt afford it, and that I am angry because hes on being sympathetic or giving me free money. I was crying at this point begging him to lose his attitude and treat me like a human. He continued to yell at me and saying that he would find my credit information and use it and find my cosigners credit card numbers and use them too. He also promised to continuously pull my credit report and drop my score 100 points. I feel very violated and harassed to a point of no return. The police did end up getting involved. This is a total nightmare!

what step should I take on this collection account?

July 14th, 2011 by admin | 5 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I just found out while checking my credit score that I have a bill in collections that I’ve never been contacted about. I have never received one letter or phone call, even though they had the correct address and phone number. When I contacted the collection agency and told the lady I was talking to that I had never been contacted, she went into freak out mode and started yelling at me!! Yikes. I just hung up.

Here are the more pertinent details. The debt is a medical bill over 3 years old, thus passed the statute of limitations in my state. So technically they agency can’t contact me. However, I’d like this off my credit asap. It seems my options are

1) Send debt validation letter
2) Send Paid to Delete letter
3) Try to negotiate them down AND get them to delete this off my credit report.

If I send a Paid to Delete letter, do I have to pay the full amount? Or can I offer a lower amount?

Is it likely that if I can get them to accept, say 50% of the amount, they will delete it off my credit?

And I thought debt validation letter would be the best first step, but when talking on the phone, everything they said sounded legit. The original amount was correct, the original collector correct, etc. If I do send a debt validation letter, and they don’t send me a response with in 30 days, then what do I do?

Thanks for any and all help, I wish I could just sit down and talk to someone about this. But the only place in the town I live in doesn’t do free consultations :(
What happens if they do not respond to a debt validation letter? I’ve read that if they don’t respond within 30 days, that you can dispute it then with the bureaus and they’ll take it off. Any idea about this one?

And I’d like this off my credit asap, thats y I asked about the Paid to delete contract. If they agree, they have to take it off my credit. I was just wondering if I should start that offer low

Can your credit be effected for not paying overdraft fees for a debit card?

July 8th, 2011 by admin | 5 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

About 3 years ago my girlfriend had bank of america and they charged her all these overdraft fees (it was bull crap) so she decided to cancel her card and not pay them. She still gets a letter or call once in awhile from collections (like every 4 months now) but she ignores them. Now we’re looking for a new apartment, but I’m scared her credit has been effected for not paying her overdraft fees? My parents said this was possible. (we’re both only 19) what are the chances of her credit being bad? I’ve been trying to get a credit report but those free credit score websites are b.s. and won’t give me the score.
she’s never had a credit card, only a debit card, btw.
I tried and it didn’t work. It’s not free.
to Ed, I understand what an overdraft is. She’s not being immature you don’t know the WHOLE story. Banks do scam people sometimes. I appreciate the answer but you could do without the rudeness.
And also we knew there’d be some type of penalty for not paying debt. She wasn’t ignoring it, she was FULLY aware that she was ignoring debt and she didn’t think it’d "magically" disappear. I just wasn’t sure if what type of penalty it’d be we are only 19 and still trying to figure all this stuff out.

Best way to obtain credit scores?

May 28th, 2011 by admin | 6 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

I am FINALLY in a position to make some positive moves and work towards cleaning my credit up. But before I start on this journey I would like some feed back on what is the best way of obtaining my and my wife’s credit info. I’ve heard that for a nominal fee you can contact the 3 major bureaus and have them send you reports. Is that right? What are the benefits to being a member of "free" credit report sites? Are the services worth the fees?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is it worth it to pay off my CREDIT CARD DEBT?

May 19th, 2011 by admin | 6 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

My score is around 500 for all three credit bureaus. But most of the accounts will be removed from my credit report by 2013. I checked with this DMP to help me and the amount was about 0 per month, for 3 1/2 years. If you do the math, I’ll be debt free around 2013. Obviously, I want my score to go up, but I’m not in a hurry. So should I pay, or just wait it out ’til it falls off? Serious (hopefully professional or experienced) answers only. Thank you.
… Thanks for the answers. I am already behind on my payments (some as much as a year). The collection agencies call me about twice a week, hopefully that helps.

how to get money back from freescore.com?

May 7th, 2011 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in 3 Free Credit Scores

one night , i received an email for FREESCORE.COM telling me that i can check my credit report from the 3 bureaus for free.As I did that, I noticed that they charged my credit one dollar and I could not even see my credit score nor receive any statement from them.Having done that , I called them to tell them that they charged me a dollar for the service and so it is not free as they pretended. The surprize was when I lately found that they charged me .95 for the services that they offered me .The problem is when I call them, they treat me in a rude manner and they say that they can not refund me the money, do you know any way to get my money back.Thank you for helping me.
